How the day was planned
Hannah and Lucy wanted a small wedding that did not feel like a scaled-down big one. Midweek made that affordable — a Wednesday in May is roughly half a Saturday in July — and it bought them exclusive use from Tuesday afternoon to Thursday morning. They set up themselves on the Tuesday with six friends and a car boot of jugs.
The room, the tables and the food
Sixty people fit on one table of that length, which changes the day. There was no seating plan beyond "sit where you like" and no top table. Lunch was long and slow, then we moved the chairs out at five and the room became somewhere to stand with a drink. The lawn games stayed out until it got cold.
How the evening went
They spent the difference between a midweek and a weekend date on better wine and a photographer for two days. Both of them have said since that the Tuesday evening, with everyone arriving and nothing to do yet, was the best part of the week.
